Stroll along the Limestone County Courthouse grounds September 8 from 10 am until 4 pm and step into a world of fine art found at the 2nd Annual Art on the Square in Athens, AL.
“Last year, I had to remind myself I was in Athens. The artwork and meeting the artists under the trees was reminiscent of a trip to Europe,” said Diane Lehr, artist and AOTS Secretary.
Thousands attended the First Annual Art on the Square last September and the committee plans to make this year’s event bigger and better.
Over 40 participating regional artists will display and sell their original artwork in a variety of mediums including painting, clay, photography, jewelry, mixed media and more.
AOTS offers a unique opportunity to purchase original art and meet the artist. Art is for everyone and comes in all price ranges.
“I love buying art from local artists. You can own a one-of-kind art piece that has a story, without breaking the bank,” said Trisha Black, AOTS President.
Other forms of art can be found at AOTS. On the Railroad Bazaar stage, Kenneth Brown, Free 24-7, and Cristina Lynn will be performing throughout the day. In addition, there will be Tai Chi demonstrations, interpretative dance, and youth dance group performances. |
The “Athenian Arts” area on Market Street offers free art activities for children. Activities include painting, bead making, clay, story time, tye-dye shirts, and a booth to fish for art supplies.
Walk along the historic square and look at the artwork displayed in local businesses. The artwork is from area students that participated in an art contest in the spring. Winners in three different age categories will receive a $50 certificate to purchase art supplies.
And let’s not forget the food. Funnel cakes, shaved ice, barbeque, cold Pepsis, pizza, lemonade, and roasted corn are just some of items to indulge while spending the day at AOTS. Downtown restaurants will also be open during the event.
